Nujobi.com Great companies are definitely made up of great people. What I noticed about the character of people that become the great team members is the following.
So Nujobi.com, (a not so successful yet company), is looking for these types of people. In my past businesses I can say that the people that have passed through have accomplished a great deal including being honored by the United Nations. Most others just went on to run businesses that mirrored what I taught them regarding delivering quality and performing cost effectively. I am lucky to have worked with so many people that have gone on to achieve so much. Management and the time of the moment means a great deal to your character. I think running a company is a character builder. You build your own character and you transfer some bits of your character to the people that are counting on you. More about nujobi.com
When I am looking to work with people, as I am now. I first look for the desire ,second the need to work, and third the vision in their eyes. For years I was in the mirror when hiring,looking for the "just like me" people, but then I took a look at the data. Every person that had impacted my bottom line was nothing like me. They were the hero's that made decisions despite of my direction. They stood up to me when I was wrong and they stood with me when I was right. This all took patience and tongue biting and time,but the trust you build lasts a lifetime. Right now I want the same thing. I want people smarter than me and different from me. I need people that see beyond the "Yes I share your vision". nujobi.com

Just to note : People have their own ambition and they probably won't work for me forever. Maybe some of them will, and I will manage the company to provide as much security as possible. It is nice when people that worked for me tell me that they will work for me anytime, just call. That is a great to hear, unfortunately skill sets matter very much also. I have often pushed people into new skills and they have made careers from them. That is also good but right now I am in the News Marketplace business and I need a productive skill set. Maybe I can take time to re-train some of the people from my past in the future but not right now.
I have had people work for me that have become a Catholic Priest, a corruption fighting Mayor in Slovakia , three major public sector contractors, owner of a mortgage company, 2 international film stars, etc. I had nothing to do with what they became but I certainly gained by employing them. Of 500 plus employees over 30 years 500+ taught me everything I know and they are my motivation.

I don't know what the point of this is.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing if this guy Mark employed people and did stuff that he couldn't/wouldn't even sign me onto his site, but instead he sent me a torrent of intemperate and bizarre emails.
Maybe these are some of the growing pains of an industry that is still trying to establish itself, but it seems pointless to me and inconsistent with the qualities this guy says are important to him.
More than anything, this community needs more execution and less drama.
